Landry McKee

Landry on “Estrellita” summit, El Potrero, 2009

Landry was born in El Paso, TX where he first learned to climb and hike in the Franklin Mountains and Hueco Tanks State Park.  He was brought up horseback riding in New Mexico and West Texas where he learned to appreciate the great outdoors.  Landry dedicated a lot of his youth to football where he developed his team skills.  Also at a young age he began coaching various youth sports including swimming and diving.  Eventually he moved to Austin where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at St. Edwards University and found his new passion, rock climbing!

You can find him training during the week on the Austin Greenbelt or Enchanted Rock!  Or occasionally you may see him south of the border in El Potrero Chico climbing big wall limestone!  Whether it’s climbing in Joshua Tree National Park, snowboarding in Big Bear, running triathlons, or multiday kayaking on the Colorado River Landry continues to seek out new challenges and adventures in any sport.  He has been employed by Red Bull North America, worked as a high angle rigger on sky rise buildings in Dallas, and has now been guiding for Rock-About for over a year.  His well rounded knowledge in sports, coaching, and the outdoors has proven to be a worthy addition to the Rock-About staff just as his dedication to hard work, high energy level, and ability to keep everyone entertained!
