Testimonials

Rick,
I wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much that we appreciated your crew last weekend at E-Rock.
Chris and his crew were very professional and attentive to the 32 of us that were able to participate in the climbing, I saw first hand how he worked with the Scouts and Adults on the Rappelling and of course Danny, Vino and Adam who were constantly working the lower climbs making sure that we were safe and helping with techniques.
The Scouts will be deciding in April what they want to do this next year and I have a feeling that another trip to E-Rock will be in the schedule.
When we next need services like you provide, we will certainly give you a call. When asked by others who to call, we will give them your name and phone number.
Many Thanks

I wanted to let you know how much Ariel and I enjoyed our rock climbing experience at Enchanted Rock with Chris. He was great with my daughter and myself. I could not have asked for a better instructor for her.

Dear Rock-About,

I’d sincerely like to thank you very much for your services. Given that I was arranging my trip from Australia and only had a short time frame to go climbing whilst in the United States it was comforting to know that such a professional service was available to me. I was easily able to find you on the internet and so was able to lock in all details with you – giving me the peace of mind that I was in good hands whilst travelling abroad. My guide, Chris, provided me with a day that I’ll never forget. Not only was he a great person to get to know, more importantly for me he approached the day with safety, tailored the climbs to my ability, and was able to push me to my limits.

I’d also just like to pass on that although most guided sports come at a price its imperative that a business like yours remains viable for those wanting to experience such a exhilarating sport, and also most importantly remains safe to enjoy. I hope that the regulatory bodies setting the prices for insurances/regulations etc take note, as the loss of such a resource like yours would leave the industry open to the unskilled resulting in potentially unsafe outcomes.

Once again, thanks, and I’m looking forward to touching base again when I have a chance to return to the States for a climb!

Kindest regards,

Paul Martinucci

I was at a point in my life where I knew I needed to start working out, I just hated the idea of joining a gym. I was looking for some form of exercise that I could really enjoy. After my first trip out to E-Rock I was addicted! Not only did I get the exercise that I wanted, and then some, but I was outside enjoying the beauty of Central Texas. I had taken for granted what an amazing place I lived in and all of that has changed thanks to Rock-About. Not only have I started climbing at every chance I get, but I volunteered my services as Webmaster just so I could explore all aspects of this great sport, hobby and lifestyle.

The guides are some of the coolest people I have ever met and the skills they have taught me have increased my confidence in all areas of my life!

Thanks Rock-About!

Dear Rock-About,

My Girl Scout troop experienced their first rock climbing adventure this weekend with your company. All of your guides were very knowledgeable and EXTREMELY patient. The girls had a wonderful time.

We have been on many trips, but all the girls agreed that this was
their best trip ever. They are already begging us to bring them back
this summer.

Thanks again for giving them this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Dear Kirk and Rick,

Just a quick note of thanks for the wonderful time we had climbing at the Potrero Chico this January. It was awesome. The climbs were all that you said, and we found lots within our abilities. Kirk gave me a lot of really useful information prior to the trip so my group was comfortable and prepared. Now, I just can’t wait to go back. I loved the first pitches of Space Boys for the sheer height of the climb which you will not get where we live. The exposure on the last pitch of the Two Spires was awesome. I loved that experience of “my knees in the breeze.” It gave me a great confidence boost.

Kirk, Chris, and Joe were a great guide team. They perfectly balanced challenging me as a climber with just the right amount of encouragement and detailed instructions. Chris especially seemed to have the knack of knowing when to help and when to let me figure it out myself. I left the trip a better climber for that.

The accommodations were great. The food was awesome, and it was a fun week, on and off the rock. Two years ago, I wouldn’t believe a thirtysomething, mother of two would be climbing limestone in Mexico, but I did it.

Love and thanks to all,
Paula Teague

It had been 17 years since I had rock climbed. After spotting a Rock About class going on, while at E-Rock, I decided to give it another try. I have to say that it was the best decision that I have made in years! Climbing is like wrestling and yoga all mixed up together. The only person who determines whether you get to the top or not is YOU.

The guides are very knowledgeable and have an incredible rockside manner. I felt safe and well instructed. They encouraged me to push myself beyond limits I thought I could reach. If your into having a great time in a gorgeous environment and like getting PUMPED UP while honing in your natural ability to climb, then you have got to check these guys out. By far my best experience in a long time!!!

THANKS A MILLION ROCK ABOUT! I can’t wait for my next class!

October 6, 2002 letter to lonelyplanet.com:

I want to suggested an addtion to the Texas Lonely Planet website. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is highlighted in the Around Fredricksburg section. There is mention of the climbing interest in the area, but no resources provided.

I utilized Rock-About for climbing instruction/guide service. They offer group and private climbing any day of the week for beginner level to advanced. They also can provide all necessary gear.

As a beginner, I found the experience to be fantastic. I discovered them through an internet search, then coordinated the trip via e-mail. Rick (one of the owners) also offered to answer questions via phone.

Their website contains pricing and program information, as well as other sites where they offer guide service. I witnessed another guide service while I was there, and was thankful that Rock-About was the group that answered my initial e-mail inquiry (the other group never responded) and that they were the group I chose. 4 of us went for a group lesson first, and then I went back for a private lesson later.

I got much more than my money’s worth and highly recommend them. They even let my 5 year old son do a little climbing so he could feel special as well at no extra charge. They were very professional and safety conscious(without being overbearing), and fostered one heck of a great time. Having used Lonely Planet around the world and knowing what I like to use the books for, hopefully this will be helpful in future updates.

Rick & Kirk,

What a great experience you provided our Troop 515 Venture Patrol. My goal as their Assistant Scoutmaster is to provide as many of these learning/fun opportunities as possible. You did that and more. Successful campouts like this one not only encourage them to do more, but also bring them closer together as a working group of young men having a really good time.

We were very impressed with your organization and preparation. It makes a great impression and let the Scouts “climb like crazed monkeys” without waiting for the set up.

Again, great job, and we look forward to returning soon.

Rick and Kirk,

Just wanted to say thanks again for the excellent 401 Advanced Climbing Class. As a search and rescue team member with over 80 hours of high-angle rope rescue training, and a State Certified Fire Service Instructor, I came into the class with a critical eye regarding content and instructional technique. I must say that I was impressed with your climbing and and teaching skills, and your professional attitude both at Enchanted Rock, and on the business end of arranging the class, which was complicated by my schedule.

I was also extremely pleased with your experienced balancing of safety verses pushing climbing limits (which as a 40-something parent of 3 climbing kids, is a constant challenge). I will without a doubt be sending a kid or two your way for an anchor class in the future.

Good luck with it all, and feel free to use me as a reference anytime.

Sincerely,
Ralph Castillo
