Since 2001, Rock-About has been offering top-quality climbing and rappelling programs tailored specifically for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Trail Life Scouts, helping them achieve their climbing goals while fostering teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.
We offer two unique program options to meet the needs of your group:

  1. Climbing Day Focused on Fun: A thrilling, high-energy day focused on climbing, rappelling, and teamwork, perfect for Scouts looking to enjoy an exciting outdoor adventure.
  2. Merit Badge Day:  A structured program led by an on-site merit badge counselor, ensuring Scouts complete all necessary requirements to earn their climbing merit badge.
With AMGA-certified guides, high-quality gear, and a strong focus on safety, your troop will experience an exciting, educational, and confidence-building climbing day at Enchanted Rock, Reimer’s Ranch, Mineral Wells State Park, or the Austin Greenbelt. Whether you’re aiming to complete badge requirements or just enjoy a day of climbing fun, we have the perfect program for your Scouts!

  • Can this program help our Scouts earn a climbing merit badge?

    Yes! Our Scout Troop Rock Climbing Program is designed to align with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Trail Life Scouts merit badge requirements. We have at least one Merit Badge Counselor on-site to ensure that Scouts learn and demonstrate the necessary skills, including:

    • Knot tying and belaying techniques
    • Climbing safety and equipment use
    • Rappelling and rope management

    While we cover all essential climbing skills, some troops may need to complete additional classroom portions separately to fully meet BSA merit badge requirements.


  • What does a typical day in the Scout Climbing Program look like?

    Our scout climbing days are structured to balance skill-building and adventure, typically including:

    • Safety briefing and gear fitting
    • Climbing technique instruction
    • Hands-on belaying and rappelling practice
    • Fun group challenges and skill applications

    We offer both recreational climbing days (for fun and team-building) and merit badge-focused days for troops working toward specific achievements.


  • What is included in the program fee?

    The program fee covers all necessary climbing gear, including:

     ✔ Harnesses

     ✔ Ropes and belay devices

     ✔ Instruction from AMGA-certified climbing guides


    Our group rate is $85 per scout with a minimum of 7 participants, and we require a $200 deposit to schedule.

    We offer climbing experiences at some of the best outdoor locations in Texas, including:

    • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
    • Reimer’s Ranch
    • Mineral Wells State Park
    • Austin’s Barton Creek Greenbelt

    Each location offers unique climbing challenges suitable for different skill levels.

  • What are the safety qualifications of the instructors?

    Safety is our top priority. All lead instructors are at least AMGA Single Pitch Instructors, and our owner is an AMGA Certified Rock Guide and SPI Provider. Our guides are experienced in working with youth groups and large troop settings, ensuring that scouts stay safe while building confidence in their climbing skills.
